Absolutely lovely cafe since 1951, operated by this sweet couple. I’m moved by the friendliness and hospitality of all the staffs. Superb ambience and soft classical music, with classy interior design + decoration. They serve great cocoa and dessert, that I came back repeatedly during my stay in Takayama. Highly recommended

We had breakfast here. Not only was the coffee and breakfast superb but the people were polite and kind. Even the ambiance is great. If ever I happen to visit Takayama again i will surely go there again.

Lovely quiet setting which has exactly what you’re looking for, if you’re looking for a good cup of coffee, sandwiches, espresso, etc. The people were welcoming and I would recommend this place to anyone.

Absolutely loved this place. It has such a old diner feel. English menu is included and has more options now than the current photo online but I was not allowed to take photos. Coffee and toast can easily be made vegan by asking for no dairy. I highly recommend the gingerbread latte. The most delicious latte I’ve ever had! Lovely stop, nice and warm on a cold and rainy day.

The coffee was really good! We had black coffee, latte and espresso to take away. Everyone loved it! It was an old cafe in that hood but it was clean and cozy.

Very cozy and friendly place where you can relax and enjoy yourself. It has a different feeling to it, you almost forget you are in Japan. Their hot cacao is perfect.

This place is awesome! the wait staff are very attentive and lovely. I came here most mornings while i was in Takayama, the food and the coffee are both equally delicious. The cute decor and relaxing music add to the already brilliant ambiance throughout this cafe. The toasted sandwich i had was constructed with fresh and wonderful ingredients, allowing me to start the day with something healthy and filling in my stomach! Could not recommend this place more highly!!

A wonderful place in the heart of Takayama. We went in after a long walk in the snowy landscape. Then we enjoyed a cheesecake with a hot coffee. Very friendly people and a relaxing atmosphere. Thank you.

Very cute coffee shop in Takayama ran by cute elders. Its very quaint yet coffee is just ordinary. However, this is a good pit stop for those who wants to warm up from walking around especially in winter

I got luck enough to see a snowy Takayama in March and this was my safe place. Super cozy, fantastic staff and excellent food. Breakfast set is reccomend, simple and tasty. Thank you, Coffee Don.

Very old coffee shop in Takayama. The prices of beverages are cheap. The quality is very good. The ambiance is nice. The perfect place to take some load off while you venture the streets of Takayama.

Loved this coffee place! The choice of sweets is amazing and I can highly recommend the cream puff here!! Simply loved it.They have WiFi for their customers and also an English menu, so you can easily choose and relax here. Water is free and comes with your order. It reminds me a lot of coffee shops at home in Vienna.The owners are super friendly too. Can only recommend this place!

Coffee Don is a true gem. They are on their third (maybe fourth?) generation. Founded in 1951! This is a no-frills, blast from the past with true character. The owners are extremely nice, the service is top notch and the coffee, well- is perfect. Also, the vanilla ice cream is phenomenal. What a terrific place to sit down in the afternoon and take in the day. Thanks Coffee Don- you rock!

Walked in on a whim while waiting for a dinner reservation and were pleasantly surprised. Literally the best cream puff I've ever had. And that's saying something, given that our state fairs hallmark food is a cream puff. They initially told us they were out but ended up whipping fresh cream for us. Staff was very friendly and cordial - big highlight is the sharply dressed man behind the bar. :)English menu available!

I feel happiness. The coffee shop is a warm store and old school style , you will like in time machine. gingerbread latte is so special, you can take a rest here.

Very difficult to find a cafe shop before 8:00am in Takayama，And this is a delicious coffee shop with excellent service! The owner and staff is kind and helpful. We had breakfast with ice coffee ，Cappuccino and hot dog - all tasty! They give you a yummy little cookie with your coffee. This is good suggestions to visit Takayama and go to this shop to take a break for coffee .

The staff is super friendly and efficient. There's an English menu with dozens of different options that you can enjoy at the bar or seated at a table. The apple pie is delicious (the chocolate cake is just OK!), and the price is very reasonable. However, the best thing is, no doubt, the whole atmosphere inside the cafe. It's one of those places where you could spend hours just relaxing and enjoying a cup of coffee!

It's a coffee/bar with some food and deserts. The service is fantastic.The basil toast and the minestrone soup were my favorite. Homemade deserts and fresh coffee. Truly recommended!!!

The oldest coffee shop in Takayama opened by an old couples since 1951 😱, coffee is great cake is also good. I ordered hot dog which is rarely offered in cafe. They also made it in a great dish. Should try when you’re in Takayama.

Toast and cream puff were pretty tasty, the coffee was definitely not worth the price. Looks like the coffee is from a Delonghi instant machine and tastes that way. Good place to chill for a bit I guess.

Cozy, rustic atmosphere. The fresh pastries were delicious. I had the toast for breakfast which was nice - probably the thickest slice ever but really nice bread. We had the cappuccino’s I think the filter coffee may have been better. Staff super cute they ran after us to give us some little freebie cakes. Too cute.

Nice little place with a character. The coffee is great its not acidic. The cheesecake is their homemade menu. The creampuff is also really good.

Really nice cosy coffee open since 1951, a place where you can eat homemade cakes or snacks. The staff is really nice, i think all the family work here. The menu is in english.The coffees are really good, i tried the vienna coffee and the caramel cappuccino, it was delicious. The chocolate cake was homemade and soft, and the apple pie (homemade too) was really fresh.It's a really nice place to enjoy good coffee in a quiet and nice atmosphere.Arigato
